Sign the Petition!

We need your help telling our lawmakers to reverse the 3 percent salary threshold and put it back to 6 percent. Our teachers depend on it. Our students depend on it. And we won’t fix this teacher shortage without it.

Sign this Petition… it will take you 30 seconds.

Understanding the New 3% Law (Public Act 100-587)

Here is a summary of this fact sheet about the new law.

  • This new law decreases the state’s responsibility to pay for increases in pensionable earnings that exceed 3% instead of the previous limit of 6%.
  • The 3% limit is being sold as a means to end perceived salary spiking for career educators. Instead this new law is having a chilling effect on educator professional development and further inhibiting the ability of school districts to attract new teachers into the profession during a teacher shortage.
  • Reducing the state’s responsibility to fully fund these systems results in a shift in costs to property taxpayers and college students who are struggling to pay for tuition.

NOminations for LZEA Building Representatives Now Open!

If you are interested in joining the LZEA Leadership team for the 2019-20 school year, consider joining as a Building Representative. Alternatively, if you know someone who would be good for the job, nominate them! Email Lisa Janezic (lisa.janezic@lz95.org) to nominate yourself or a colleague.

Nominations close on Friday, April 12. The election will be held on Wednesday, April 24.

Here is a brief description of the duties of a Building Representative:

  • Represent members at monthly meetings of the Board of Directors and inform the faculty of their building of any actions taken by the Board of Directors.
  • Provide two-way communication between the Association and the members, distribute materials to members, and conduct informative meetings.
  • Recruit volunteers for Association business and activities.
  • Attend bi-monthly School Board meetings on a rotation.
